Vampire Hunter D Manga

Digital Manga Publishing is releasing a manga version of the Vampire Hunter D novels. The manga has its own official website with art samples, information about the artist, a forum, and more.

This manga was announced at Anime Expo 2006. According to Rightstuf, the first five pages were on display at Anime Expo.

According to the article at ICV2, author Hideyuki Kikuchi chose artist Saiko Takaki to illustrate this manga adaptation. In November 2007 the first volume was released in English, Finnish, German, Hungarian, Japanese, and Spanish. English-language specifics:

232 pages
ISBN-10: 1-56970-827-4
ISBN-13: 978-1-56970-827-9

A 24-page sample of this manga appeared in the October 2007 issue of Otaku USA (sold at newsstands, bookstores, and even grocery stores). Wanna know an open secret? You can download a similar sample of pages from the official manga site. On the home page, click on D's pendant. DMP is being coy about the password for the sample, so I'll follow their act and give a bold hint:

Single Male 4 Blood Type AB Single Female

Key the appropriate characters into the password verifier (it is case sensitive) and click on Enter. This will take you to a page where you can download a 17-page sample of the manga, 3.8 MB of PDF goodness. This sample includes most of the pages in the Otaku USA sample. Warning: The PDF is not work safe; female nipples are visible. (The Otaku USA version censors Doris's nudity.)

Want wallpapers? On the home page, click on D's pendant and input "nobility" into the password verifier, then click Enter.

More samples of the artist's work are available at her website. (This URL comes with a big tip of the hat to Erin C.'s fearsome Google-fu!) Click on Enter. Yep, there's the cover of the first manga! For more art, click on D+, Illustration. For doujinshi excerpts, click the first kanji header under D-manga (two red kanji on a dark red bar). After that, keep clicking "next" to see doujinshi pages. Color images of D are accessible on the Illustrations page also: click links in the left-hand column that starts with "D" and "for you."

Artist Saiko Takaki shared some background on the making of the first manga at the December 2007 Talk Live.

Volume 2, Raiser of Gales, is slated for release in May 2008. Particulars for the English-language version:

ISBN-10: 1-56970-787-1
ISBN-13: 978-1-56970-787-6

More news will be posted to the e-mail discussion list as it is available. Information will be added here as I find time to update this page.
